You’ve done your amazing introduction, everyone is stoked and ready to play so here we go! Straight into Round One, General Knowledge!
Most of the rounds will work the same way but there are a few exceptions (we’ll get to those a bit later) but for the most part, they will work just like round one. Nic, tell us how to start a round and release the Kraken! Er… the questions. Yeah! That’s what we mean!
Starting a Round and Releasing Questions (1:46)
As soon as you’ve released all the questions, you need to open up submissions so that teams can answer the questions that you’ve just asked them! As the answers start rolling in you will need to start reviewing answers (because if you don’t then how will teams know if they’re winning at the end of the round?) Nic? Shanel? Can you tell us how to do that? But of course, don’t forget to turn up the music when you’re done talking on the mic so that they can jam to the music while they ponder the answers.
Opening and grading submissions (3:34)
Once you’re done reviewing your answers, you’re ready to tell the folks what the answers are! Close those submissions, and now you’re going to read the questions again but this time with the answers! Your players want to know if they knocked it out of the park or not. At the bottom of just about every round, there will be an announcement for you to read and this is the time to do it! And finally, last but not least, read your scores to them from last place to first!
Round Summary (1:59)
After you’ve finished up that first round you’re heading straight into Round Two: The Picture Round. Who doesn’t love a pretty picture or eight? Oh? A video on how to do that? Yeah, we’ve got one of those!
Closing Submissions and Round 2 (2:18)
Round Three is going to be a themed round and as you already know from the outline above, and works just like round one. So, we’ll take this moment to tell you how to edit the scores if ever you need to! It’s easy peasy we promise.
Editing Team Scores (3:09)
Round Four is a Clue Round! This round isn’t hard to host but it is different from our other rounds. The majority of the time that clue round will be a Guess Who but it might be a Guess What or a Guess Where. Don’t panic! Any of those will all work the same.
Round 4- The Clue Round (4:29)
Tip for round four: 60-90 seconds between clues in total silence is an ETERNITY! Put your music on between the clues! Trust us!
Round Five is going to be the connection round! The first nine answers will all have something in common, that’s the answer to question ten! Don’t forget that if you see something in italics between the question and the answer, we’re talking straight to you, the Quizmaster. We might be explaining the connection or giving you additional factoids that you might need etc., but that stuff in italics probably shouldn’t be read to the teams while you’re giving them the questions.
The Drinking Round! (If applicable)
Oh yeah! This is one of our favorite rounds! As we said before, some venues are going to have a drinking round (sometimes called a spirit round) and some venues don’t. The drinking round works like a little brain break for our players and goes in between rounds five and six. Your teams have probably racked their brains trying to find that tricky connection so a brain break is a delight!
The Drinking Round (3:12)
Congratulations! You’re in the home stretch of the game! (and training too) This is the Matching Round! This one works almost exactly like the picture round! A box with all the answers and drop-downs for the answers? You know that we love this one! (We might love all the rounds in all fairness) Okay, Shanel! Take it away and show ‘em how it’s done!
Round 6- The Matching Round (1:55)
It’s the final countdown (insert us dancing and singing along here)! The final round of the night! This one is the list round. There are typically one or two questions with a total of ten answers. But Robin really wants to tell you more about it so we’ll let her!
Round 7- The List Round (1:46)
When you’re done with the list round and you’re juuuuuust about to read the scores. Wait! Take a quick peek at them and see if there’s a tie that needs to be broken. We HIGHLY recommend checking this out BEFORE you read the final scores of the night so that if you need to do a tiebreaker you can actually be heard rather than just hearing the squeaks of chairs of all the folks that didn’t get a prize or aren’t involved in the final tie.
The Tiebreaker (2:11)
