At its most basic, the job of your Regional Managers is to make sure that all of the games from Maine to Alaska go every single week. That being said, they really need to make sure you're ready to go and going to be there! The way that you tell them that is to confirm your show on the host site. One of the most beloved Regional Managers, Dexter, is going to tell you all about it in the video below! Take it away Dexter!
Confirming Your Show (1:51)
We tell all of our venues to expect their Quizmaster 30 minutes before the start time of the game. That means that if your show starts at 7:00 then we need you to be there, checking in with whoever is in charge for the night at 6:30.
If you’re going to be late, call or text your Regional Managers! Do NOT call the venue, we can take care of all that for you.
When you arrive at the venue you’ll need to “clock in” and you can do this by Going Live! But we aren’t going to make you read all about it… Dexter is going to tell you all about it in the video! Take it away Dexter!
Going Live! (4:47)
After you introduce yourself to whoever is in charge for the night like the polite wonderful humans that we know you are, there are four questions that we want you to ask. That way you’re set up for success!
- What’s the sound equipment? The sound equipment will be at the venue but that also means that every venue could be a little bit different. If you ever have trouble setting it, have questions, etc. don’t hesitate to call or text the emergency line for help. As soon as you’ve got your audio set up start playing those TUNES and making announcements that trivia will start soon!
- A quick note about those tunes: King Trivia HQ will not tell you what you have to listen to. You have to listen to it, we don’t. So make it something fun and something that you like but please oh please, read the room! Make sure you are playing something that is appropriate for the venue and that most everyone will like. You should avoid expletive-laced songs and things that might cause pushback or folks to be uncomfortable
- What are the prizes for the night? The venue is going to be giving you (or telling you) what the prizes are for the night and again, every venue is different. Make sure you know what the prizes are for the night so that you can entice folks with the prizes if they stay and play! Plus, free beer is our favorite flavor here at King Trivia HQ! We think it makes it taste better when it’s free so we assume that’s what the players will think too!
- Do you have a drinking round? Some venues will have one and some venues don’t so make sure that you ask! They’re our favorite so we think that everyone should have one but what can ya do? There’s a video later that will go over the drinking round so we’ll get to that later!
- How does my Quizmaster tab work? In general, there’s a $25 tab for the Quizmaster at each of our venues. However, as we have said with the previous three questions, every venue is different! (We know, you didn’t see that one coming, did you?) Make sure that you ask if there are any limitations or stipulations on that tab. For example, if you’re at a brewery and there’s a taco truck outside you might not be able to order $25 worth of tacos because it’s not theirs to give. (Would we try and eat all those tacos? Of course, we would!)
- Another quick note about your tab. You are an adult and if you would like an adult beverage while you’re hosting we don’t mind at all as long as you keep in mind that you are also working. Stay classy please! Your tab also doesn’t cover your tip to the server and the best Quizmasters always tip their servers!
Once you’re set-up and the music is going, start walking around, getting folks signed up and excited for trivia. You can make announcements every 5 minutes or so just like Dexter showed you in the video!
When it’s finally trivia o’clock you need to start your introduction and get this party started! Your intro should have fun and sound like you but it should always have at least the following 4 things in there every time
- Your name! Tell these nice folks who you are and we promise that we won’t make you wear a name tag!
- Tell them the rules of trivia! Because what’s a game without rules? Candyland with a toddler… if you’ve ever tried it then you’ll know what we’re talking about and if you haven’t… we don’t recommend it because it’s total anarchy!
- Explain Double or Nothing! It’s one of our favorite things about the game so we want everyone to know about it
- Tell them what the prizes are for the night! We love winning things and we’re guessing that your players do too so tell them what they could win if they’re the supreme smarty pants of the night!
So we mentioned the rules. There are only three but that makes them pretty darned important so here they are:
- Don’t shout out the answers!
- Don’t cheat!
- The Quizmaster has the final say!
We also mentioned Double-or-Nothing in that introduction. What is it you ask? At the end of almost every round, right next to the submit button, there's a glorious little check box that says "Double or Nothing"! If you are positive that all your answers for the round are correct, and you left no blank spots then check the box! If you're right I'll give you twice as many points for the round. However, if you got one wrong or left one blank... that's where the nothing part comes in! No points for the round! It's a gamble but super fun! Aaaaand you can use it as many times as you want throughout the game!
Go straight from your introduction into the first round. You’ve already got their attention so keep it and keep going.
Here are a couple of notes to keep in mind as you are getting teams signed up to play trivia and have an amazing night hanging out with you.
Team Management is one of your primary responsibilities as the host so make sure you watch these awesome videos about Team Management and Kicking Teams so that you are ready to get this game started!
