As a Quizmaster, can I…?

Play trivia?

Absolutely! We’re all nerds here and we love to play so enjoy! Quizmasters and their spouses, children, pets, roommates, pen-pals, etc. are allowed to play at our regular King Trivia games as well as themed events. However, if your team begins getting first place at an alarming rate, it will look suspicious and we'll have to keep an eye on it. Sorry, but it just looks bad to our regular players. We are not against QMs being on a winning team, but please understand how it looks if all you do is win, win, win.

Curse on the mic?

If you're hosting at an all-ages venue and there is a chance of children being in attendance, then absolutely not.

If you're hosting at a 21+ bar, there isn't really a set rule on cursing. Use your best judgment, but in general, no F-word or any insulting or derogatory names. If you walk in and the venue is blasting some profanity-laced music, you can probably get away with a few well-placed obscenities. But like with almost all great humor, less is more - going on a vulgar rant and dropping F-bombs every other word is never a good option. The important thing is to not offend any of the players or bar staff. If they start to get offended, we will ask you to adjust your behavior accordingly.

Change a team’s name?

You'll undoubtedly have a team with a dirty name at some point and the best way to handle it is to edit out the bad name. F*** becomes eff, S*** becomes poop, B**** becomes Witch. You could also change it entirely so that now they are Polly Pocket and Friends. Read the room and use your good judgment as you decide to do any of these things.

You are never required to say any team names that make you feel uncomfortable.

Announce a funny wrong answer?

Of course! But be careful not to embarrass the team that wrote it. The best option here is to share the answer, but not announce which team turned it in. Oftentimes, they will out themselves with their reaction.

Wear my best ugly Christmas sweater to the game?

Ummm… yes please! King Trivia doesn’t have a specific dress code. In general, please make sure that your ensemble is clean, in good repair, and doesn’t have anything on or about it that might potentially offend someone at your game. If you’re most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt then that’s what you should wear. If you’re most comfortable in a ballgown then you sashay your bad self in there wearing a ball gown (just make sure your tiara is on straight!) Be yourself, be comfortable, and have fun!
